Research communication and education

Complex questions deserve inspectable answers.

Strategic Intelligence Research (SIR) is a research communication and education project led by Scott W. Waddell, D.S.I.

Strategic Intelligence Research makes complex topics across technology, security, institutions, and society easier to understand. We explain how these forces interact, what is changing, and why it matters—making the research easier to teach and apply while preserving its evidence and limitations, so decision-makers can consider which choices may shape what comes next.

Research, clearly explained / 01

A clear place to begin.

Each explainer introduces the question, explains what the research shows, and helps you examine the evidence and its limits.

  1. Read the explainer

Understand the question and why it matters.

  2. Explore the study

Examine its methods, findings, and limitations.

  3. Find the scholarly record

Follow the source reference to the underlying work, where available.

Our approach / 02

What makes an answer inspectable?

A clear explanation should help you examine the answer for yourself.

Sources
Where does the claim come from?
Methods
How was the evidence gathered and analyzed?
Interpretation
What is a research finding, and what is commentary?
Limits
What does the evidence leave unresolved?

Research and education / 03

Research you can bring into a learning session.

We’re developing teaching materials that help professional audiences examine research for themselves. Short explanations, practical exercises, and facilitator notes support a specific task: understanding what a study does—and does not—establish.

Areas of inquiry / 04

Questions explored here.

Global change and foresight
Emerging forces, plausible futures, and the wider effects of change.
National security and statecraft
Policy, institutions, alliances, and choices that shape security over time.
Technology and resilience
Cyber policy, critical infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and the dependencies connecting modern systems.
Intelligence and research methods
How evidence is gathered, tested, interpreted, and communicated with its sources and limits intact.

People and responsibility / 05

Each article identifies its author and the author of the underlying research. AI assistance is credited as a contribution, with responsibility for the published explanation held by its human author.

Read with AI / 06

Follow the evidence in every format.

AI assistants can read the published text, follow its sources, and preserve the limits of the research.

Start with the LLM reader guide. The reading directory and content index connect each study’s explainer, presentation, transcript, and citation record. Our crawler policy permits search, AI input, and training.

Download the complete text dataset, questions and answers, finding summaries, or study profiles. These exports represent SIR’s publications and summaries; they are not the original studies’ raw survey responses or coding files. The content index lists the available exports and their scope.

For attribution, use the Zotero-derived citation records. Cite the original research for its findings and the explainer for its interpretation.
